· Dem Jeffries,

Thank you for your letter of 19th December on the subject of

recruitment of Police Superintendents from Ceylon.

We have just been notified of the appointment of T. E. Clunie

and the selection of R. V. F. Turner from Palestine, so that there will

remain only one vacancy in the gazetted ranks of the Police Force here.

The revised salary and conditions of service for assistant superinten-

dents have been notified in my staff savingram No. 42 of 12th February.

We should be very pleased to have this remaining vacancy filled as soon

as possible, and MacIntosh, the Commissioner of Police, who is on leave

at present, would welcome being consulted on any candidates that are in

view. I should be happy to leave the matter of recruitment in his and

your hands.

yamsever, you
